Museumsdirektor umarmt Preisträger

Ernst Barlach Award

Since 1995, the Ernst Barlach Society has awarded the Ernst Barlach Award for the Arts at irregular intervals in order to draw attention to innovative and artistic achievements and to support public awareness of these. The venue is usually the Barlach Kunstmuseum Wedel. The prize is awarded in all areas of the visual arts. It is a non-cash prize without prize money. The non-cash prize consists of the organization of a museum presentation with works by the prize-winner and public communication. The prize is awarded both for an individual artistic achievement and for an overall artistic achievement to date. Personal applications are not possible. The Ernst Barlach Society appoints an independent juror who selects an artist at his or her own free discretion. They are solely responsible for the decision and give reasons for it publicly.

Previous jurors were: Dr. Helmut Seemann, President of the Weimar Classicism Foundation; Dr. Jean-Christophe Ammann, Director of the Museum of Modern Art in Frankfurt; Prof. Christoph Vitali, Director of the Bundeskunsthalle in Bonn; Prof. Wilhelm Hornbostel, Director of the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe in Hamburg; Prof. Kasper König, Director of the Museum Ludwig in Cologne; Prof. Wieland Schmied, President of the Bavarian Academy of Fine Arts; Prof. Klaus Bußmann, Director of the Westphalian State Museum in Münster; Prof. Manfred Fath, Director of the Mannheim Kunsthalle; Dr. Robert Fleck, Director of the Deichtorhallen Hamburg; Dr. Hans-Werner Schmidt, Director of the Museum of Fine Arts, Leipzig, Klaus Fußmann Professor of Painting at the Berlin University of the Arts; Prof. Dr. Bernd Lindemann, Art Historian, Berlin.
