Ernst Barlach Museum Ratzeburg

Ernst Barlach Museum Ratzeburg presents the sculptor, graphic artist and writer with selected works in a multimedia exhibition concept. Poetic films on topics such as "Man and Nature" as well as "Man and World" connect Barlachs' artworks with our current questions within wide room installations, inviting us to reflect on causalities and perspectives. The artist is experienced as time witness of the modernization of our world. A digital timeline offers to explore the political, cultural, work- and life-historical processes and makes visible on which historical structures and collective memories our present is built. The Barlach Game designed for this purpose turns historical knowledge into an experience and activates our awareness of time. The artists' works move from the past to the present. Documentary films on Barlach the writer and on the influence of his childhood in Ratzeburg provide information on astonishing and so far largely unnoticed aspects of his life and work. The interactive Barlach app leads to personal dialogue with specific works and to individual interpretations. An entire floor of the museum is dedicated to the writer Ernst Barlach and his Theater World. The historic rooms of the former family home invite young and old to an extraordinary museum experience! Opening hours and admission fees

Winter break from 20 November 2023 to 22 March 2024!

During this time, the museum is only open to registered groups.

Admission: € 8.00, reduced € 6.00, groups of 10 or more € 6.00 p. p.

Open daily except Mondays from 11:00 to 18:00.
